Mobile Friendly Apps & Automated Home Systems

In pairing your mobile phone to certain devices or appliances within your home, you can now auto-adjust temperature settings, turn on certain lights while you are away and manage your home security system, along with a variety of other things. Your phone has now become a universal remote with just one swipe or a click. Screens can also be installed in areas such as the front entrance or garage, so before leaving you have the opportunity to adjust certain settings.

Sustainable Materials

One way to help reduce a home’s carbon footprint is to selectively chose recyclable materials, especially if they are from other parts of Canada. Ranging from counter tops, flooring and more, people are now in tune with what can benefit the environment and potentially be of value for the future real estate market.

LED Lighting

Quality LED light bulbs not only last longer, but offer better lighting and are more durable than the average incandescent light. They also emit less heat. LED lighting can be used almost anywhere due to their ability to come in a variety of sizes, so they can be ideal as backlit lighting, under kitchen cabinetry and stairs.

Triple Pane Windows / Larger Windows

Triple pane windows offer higher energy efficiency due to gas being injected into both air fill spaces between the panes of glass. They also significantly reduce outdoor noise. Large windows that can bring in an abundance of light and source of heat to a space is also an aspect buyers do consider.

Others

Of course, solar energy is on top of the list but has not been at the forefront as some homes may not be directly implicated in direct sun light. Rainfall water recovery in order to capture and store rain that falls on-site and using it elsewhere in the home has also been something people generated interest in, along with trying to incorporate a geothermal system which harvests heat absorbed from the earth’s surface and is distributed as a heat source. These 3 elements have been typically of more interest outside of the island of Montreal.
