It may be difficult moving from one neighborhood to another, especially if you’ve switched from city living to your first starter home in the suburbs. With new technologies always emerging and with the new societal norms of the internet, it is safe to say that we are no longer left in the dark. Here are some tips for a PRE and POST purchase evaluation of your potential new neighborhood.

PRE:

Not only has centris.ca implemented this new tool, but real estate agency websites such as sothebysrealty.ca as well. Each listing now comes with an area overview of what is nearby. A rating scale from 0-10 will help you identify what is close by: schools, public transport, etc. Even by clicking on a certain item such as “Parks”, a list will then appear with the name of the parks and their proximity.

POST:

Once you’ve made a decision and you are now settled in your new abode, you may want to know your community a little more. The best way to do so, besides speaking to your neighbors is to also visit your neighborhood’s website. A plethora of information is at your fingertips, such as the services that are available to you, community news and so on. Another way to connect is through Facebook. More and more neighborhood groups have been started to welcome newcomers and to keep current residents up-to-date and connected. You may just find some new friends to join in the local soccer club!
